In 2006 Eanes CARES funded a survey of the Adult Westbank Community to evaluate their attitudes regarding various behaviors, including those relating to drug and alcohol usage. The persons surveyed included local merchants, clergy, parents, school staff/administrators, representatives from city government and law enforcement, etc.
A few of the points to consider from the 2006 survey, as you look at the results are:
- Among the adult respondents, there was a very high concern and knowledge of what is needed and the direction the community should go, but a much lower level of response in their perception that they could effectuate change.
- Among the adult respondents, only 30% felt that the community had a zero tolerance for alcohol use by minors.
- Among the adult respondents, only 40% felt that the community had a zero tolerance for drug use.
- Among the adult respondents, 40% reported that they had participated in binge drinking in the past year (5 or more drinks at once).
- Among the adult respondents, one in 10 felt that it was okay to try drugs and alcohol to see what it was like.
